Common FAQS
-
Refine Laser and Care recommends six treatments. In fact, it is not uncommon for a person to need seven or more. There are a variety of factors that can influence the total number of treatments any individual may require to achieve the desired results. To ensure maximum results, we recommend doing a treatment once every 6-8 weeks.
-
The area to be treated will be shaved. The laser will produce a beam of highly-concentrated light. The light emitted by the light sheer diode laser is absorbed by the hair’s pigment. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the dermal papilla, disabling several follicles at a time to eliminate or significantly impede the hair’s growth.
Refine Laser and Skin Care’s special contact-cooling hand piece cools and protects the surrounding skin while it brings the laser energy as close as possible to the hair root. The cooling tip has a mild anesthetic property, which allows tender areas to be treated in a relatively painless fashion. You will feel a tingling or stinging sensation during the treatment, but most people tolerate the procedure well. Topical anesthetic is available to increase your comfort, if you choose.
-
Following your treatment, you may experience a sunburn-type sensation in the treated area for several hours. For the first few weeks the hairs will slowly slough off and at first it will look as if you have more hair. This will fall out and after a few weeks, the area will be smooth and hairless.
-
As with any procedure where safety and comfort are key, history of previous treatments, medications, allergies and pigmentary problems will be discussed with the Refine Laser and Skin Care staff prior to the laser treatment. You must avoid sun four to six weeks before and after your treatment. Please shave the area you planned to have treated prior to your appointment.

That depends. Pregnancy restricts the use of topical anesthetics and may present some other challenges. While there is no evidence to suggest that pregnant women cannot be treated safely, it is our policy not to treat without written permission of the patient’s physician. When you come for your consultation, we can discuss the particulars of what you would like to have done and review your options.

Laser hair removal is generally safe when performed by a trained and experienced professional using FDA-approved devices. While there are some risks, such as minor burns or skin irritation, these are rare and can be minimized with proper care.
