People with Injectables Neglect Their Skincare: Here’s Why
I’ve been in the beauty industry for nearly 20 years and there is one resounding truth some of you may not like to hear. People with fillers, neurotoxins, and injectables are notorious for having a bad skincare routine. Injectables often mean bad skin habits and bad skincare products. I wish I was wrong, but I see this ugly truth over and over.
It’s funny, right? Patients that are willing to spend hundreds (thousands!) of dollars fine-tuning their face with quality injectables and dermal fillers are some of the first to write off skincare. WHY!?
Well, I have some educated guesses... Read along and let me know what you think. Then, I invite you to PLEASE prove me wrong. Together, let’s correct this heartbreaking problem in aesthetic medicine.
Why patients with injections skimp on skincare
I think the answer is quite simple. After injectables (especially the new designer fillers), their skin looks amazing, so they don’t feel the need to invest their money or time in a skincare regime. There’s two major reasons. They want to save money and save time. Here’s why that’s wrong.
They want to save money on their anti-aging treatments
Fillers (like Revanesse Versa) and neurotoxins (like Botox® and Dysport®) smooth out wrinkles and help rejuvenate the skin. Some fillers even promote collagen production to restore a more youthful glow and yield long lasting results. When a patient sees how great they look in the mirror, why would they pay for more? They got the results they wanted.
That’s where they fall into the trap of using lower quality skincare products (or none at all) or developing bad skin habits. For example, not washing the face, sleeping with makeup on, or skipping moisturizers or serums altogether.
They want to save time
The next reason is time. Injectables create amazing results for patients instantly. Skincare products can take weeks or months to make a significant difference. Injectables may seem like a short cut, but you’re steering off the road if you don’t support them with skincare.
Skincare products and healthy skin habits directly affect your filler results.
How a proper skincare routine affects injectables
Injections and skincare go together because their results depend on one another. Injectables like dermal fillers and neurotoxins work best when paired with a proper skin care routine designed for your specific skin type and concerns.
Leading dermatologists recommend you should:
“Supercharge your skincare in the weeks and months following your injection by incorporating a moisturizer with ultra-hydrating ingredients. It will dovetail off the internal hydrating effects of the injected hyaluronic acid fillers and enhance the skin-smoothing results of Botox." - from Harper's Bazaar
You read that right. Skincare products can help enhance and prolong the results of your injectables. Other healthy ways to support better results are to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and avoid sun exposure. SPF is your BFF.
Taking proper care of the face (and body) sets the foundation for everything else. In short, make skincare a top priority. Your skin and wallet in the long run will thank you.
